Classic Homemade Thanksgiving Stuffing

This classic Thanksgiving stuffing is buttery, savory, and packed with comforting holiday flavor. Made with dried bread cubes, celery sautéed in butter, and warm seasonings, this is the stuffing my family requests every year and always wants extra to take home.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 package seasoned or unseasoned stuffing bread cubes
  • 3 loaves white bread torn and dried 4–6 hours
  • 3 celery stalks chopped
  • 1 small onion or 1–2 tsp onion powder
  • 2 ½ sticks butter
  • 2 tsp poultry seasoning
  • 3 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp pepper
  • 1 tsp sage
  • 2 cups broth
  • 2 cups milk
  • 2 eggs beaten

Method
 

  1. Tear the white bread and dry for 4–6 hours.
  2. Sauté celery and onion in butter until tender.
  3. Combine dried bread and stuffing mix in a large bowl.
  4. Add sautéed vegetables and seasonings.
  5. Whisk broth, milk, and eggs; pour over the bread mixture.
  6. Mix gently until moistened and transfer to a greased baking dish.
  7. Bake at 375°F for 50 minutes covered, then uncover and bake 5 minutes more.
  8. Let rest 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • For more flavor, add cooked sausage.
  • Use vegetable broth for a vegetarian version.
  • Ensure internal temperature reaches 165°F if placing stuffing in a turkey.
